Time Needed:  4 hours Volunteers Needed:  0 - Project is Full

Project Description: The Avera hospice garden area is a beautiful, calming area for patients (who come out in wheelchairs or even their beds) and their families. Residents of Prince of Peace nursing home also come over to walk through the garden. The upkeep primarily is done by two hospice volunteers. Planting flowers, weeding and watering is a big job throughout the growing season. It has been a number of years since the mulch has been replaced in the garden area. Replacing the mulch would add greatly to the appearance of the garden. The project would involve spreading the mulch from the bales to the areas of the garden around trees, bushes, flowers and plantings.

Tools & Materials Needed to Complete the Project: Bales of mulch, shovels, rakes

The Following Tools & Materials Will Be Provided: Shovels and rakes could be provided. Financial assistance for the bales of mulch would be greatly appreciated. (3 bales of mulch at $185 each from a discounted source)

Special Requirements for the Project: Volunteers would need to be able to shovel mulch and spread it around in the garden--which is a fairly physical job. Depending on the time of day, a person would need to dress for hot weather and probably work earlier in the day and later in the day. Frequent water breaks would be wise. Seeing the final outcome is highly rewarding however!
